FFCR Participates in Our Kids’ 2018 Adoption & Fostering Summit

On Saturday, October 27th, Our Kids, along with the South Florida Foster & Adoptive Parent Association and other community partners, hosted The Adoption & Fostering Summit at the Wolfson Campus of Miami-Dade College.  This special day-long event was created to provide foster and adoptive parents information and resources and an opportunity to engage with community partners and child welfare stakeholders.  Summit workshops focused on topics such as, trauma informed parenting and adoption supports and services.  Zachary Gibson, the Governor’s Chief Child Advocate, served as the master of ceremonies and opened up the day’s events with heartfelt words of thanks to Miami’s foster parents.  All of the foster parents in attendance received special ‘goody bags.’ Florida Foster Care Review contributed an information-packed resource guide for foster parents about the Citizen Review Panel process attached to mini-clipboards, and our Training & Engagement Manager, Marissa Leichter, attended the event. She explained that, “A summit specifically targeted at addressing issues facing foster parents will ultimately support recruitment and retention efforts for the most important, challenging, and rewarding aspects of child welfare – foster parenting.”

Florida Foster Care Review provided clipboards and “A Foster Parent’s Guide: The Judicial Review before the Citizen Review Panel” inside the foster parents’ goody bags!

The stage is set for the opening of Our Kids’ Adoption and Fostering Summit.
