FFCR Staff Helps Florida Youth SHINE

From July 13 – 16th, FFCR’s Training & Outreach Manager, Marissa Leichter, participated in Florida Youth SHINE’s quarterly meeting at the Hampton Inn in Plantation, Florida. Florida Youth SHINE (Striving High for Independence and Empowerment) is a youth-run, peer-driven organization that empowers current and former foster youth to become leaders and advocates within their communities. Forty youth from chapters all over the state met to elect the 2018 – 2019 statewide board chairs. In addition, they met in small groups to share their personal stories and to vet which issues will take priority at Children’s Week 2019 in Tallahassee. Marissa, along with Robert Latham of the University of Miami School of Law, serve as adult mentors for the Miami Chapter of Florida Youth SHINE.
