Every morning, Melissa Taylor, PRT Specialist and leader of the Tabata Warriors, sends out an email to a long list of staff across various agencies, departments and organizations at the Children’s Courthouse announcing the time and place of the 10-15 minute session. Each day focuses on working different parts of the body and include ‘Leg Day with a Twist’,  “Abs and Arms’ and the highly coveted ‘Rest Day’ led by Lamar Thomas which features stretching, light yoga poses and a guided meditation.

Tabata Time officially starts with a powerful mantra that is recited in unison and sets the tone for the workout and rest of the day.

“I LOVE MY BODY TODAY!

I’M THINKING BIG TODAY!

I’M MAKING PLANS TODAY!

I’M SETTING GOALS GOALS!

I’M MAKING MOVES TODAY!

I’M BEING STRETCHED TODAY!

I LOVE MY BODY TODAY!”

Melissa Taylor motivates, inspires and empowers others to become their best selves and pushes them to a new level of possibility.  Committing to 10 minutes a day has inspired even greater lifestyle change with some Tabata Warriors running 5ks, challenging themselves to harder work-outs, and completing the Whole 30 program. Every month a new Tabata MVP is crowned and they are tasked with leading one group work out, are treated to lunch by Melissa, and choose who to pass the baton to by nominating the next MVP.

Although not everyone on the email list shows up, those who do commit are bound to see the results. Not just physically, but mentally and emotionally, as it provides a chance to clear your mind and  connect with colleagues who also work within the child-welfare system. While life has innumerable demands, finding the time to invest in yourself and well-being is paramount, especially for those who spend so much of their days investing in others.
